I must admit (gleefully) that we live in one of the most beautiful (if not the most beautiful) places in New York. Here are the snapshots which include all of the seasons and the beauty therein. Fortunately for us, we had a mild winter, and were able to take the 2 mile trek regardless of month or time of day. One of the coolest things for me was seeing the sun set at different points on Staten Island over the course of the past few months--during January it was closer to the Verrazano Bridge, and since then has moved further north (to the right). Also, it was dark in January at 5PM; now it gets dark after 8PM.

On closing day, we found yaks and elk-like animals fighting over a hill, had a very close encounter with a giraffe who thought 1) we have a dirty hood which he should clean the leaves from and 2) our windshield was tasty, found 2 ostrich attacking one another near the lion cage before being distracted by us (they started to follow--ahhhhh!), found the bears doing bear things (but not sitting in the green algae), and monkeys having a Tom & Ryan fight. Then we went on some rides. :)
- Pirate Halloween
- Pumpkin Jack
I had picked up the gold coins last night and Jim wanted to carve a pumpkin (surprise surprise--he wants to be a pirate this year). I don't remember the last time I carved a pumpkin--it must have been well over 20 years ago.
Next year we'll try something really elaborate, or not.

- Old San Juan
We took so many photos that this city deserved its own page. Loved the tiles and blue brick. 97F and no breeze, so even with hats and 30SPF, we each became tanned and a little burnt this day. - 1978 Lotus Esprit

- Schenk House Visit
The West Windsor Historical Society is at this 130+ year old farm house, barn, smokehouse, etc.
Nearby is Grover's Mill, the location from which Orson Wells broadcast "War of the Worlds" in 1938.
Open the second Sunday of each month, this month's theme was Quilts. It will be interesting to see new exhibits over the next few months.
- Are you my Rogers?
John Rogers, British born, emigrated to New Jersey prior to the 1680's to the area near where we live. As we pass various cemeteries, we'll document what we've found, and eventually match them up to the family records.
Some of the gravestones are depressing--many were children under the age of 5.
- Jpg meets Zoe

- Memorial Day Weekend
We had planned to visit Vermont, but there was plenty to do here. Rotary Pancake breakfast, Parade on Nassau, bathing Zoe, getting pets shot and Frederick chipped, and kayaking in addition to grilling on the porch Saturday and Sunday nights.
- Springtime grilling!
Sometimes it's nice having a porch, such as on the first sunny day of spring (thus far the ONLY nice day). The hibachi was christened and we had grilled salmon, pork, and mini burgers. Yes, we're pigs. :)

We visited Turdo Vinyards in addition to taking the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to Cape Henlopen for camping in 70F+ weather. Beautiful!
In the morning, we heard a cacophony of birds...doot-de-doo, honk honk, deet deet! (repeat constantly). We decided they were rabid monkeys taunting Zoe--and were right: we heard a bunch swoop down to steal the burnt baguette off the hot grill and then giggled like schoolgirls. :)

We had a taste of so many of the beers, reviewed on Yelp in more detail. Recommended to go to Porter's Pub afterwards, we found our next abandoned castle to storm. When we were planning our wedding, we wanted a bag printed emulating the Warhol bag I had, with a strip of Andy in the photobooth, the poppy flowers, Mao in drag, and the cow. We ran out of time, so for anyone who made it to the wedding--this was supposed to be on the bag. Instead, you got neutral cotton gift bags which were less obnoxious. We used a flower from Staten Island, a photo of Zoe as a puppy (getting a decent photo of her these days, including in profile, is nearly impossible), our strip from a photobooth from 2004 at the San Mateo County Fair, Frederick in my SF apartment, and 1976 childhood photos from 5827 West Race Street and 3237 Arcadia Place.

Attempting to be earth-friendly eco-tourists, we didn't stay at a posh resort. We passed what we first thought was a castle, then inferred that it was likely a hospital for the insane or those infected with tuberculosis. Nearly 2 years later, we found a route in, and here are the photos. They really do not do the place justice. It's beautiful, but terrifying in its decay. We did manage to make it into the place, but little more than 15 feet. The last photos show the route out.
